ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — NOVEMBER 5, 2026. The governing-board election in Garden Grove Unified School District Trustee Area 4 has a close top-two contest: Quan Vuong has 4,599 votes (43.0%), Tracy La 4,094 (38.3%) and John Giang Nguyen 2,009 (18.8%) in the November 4 early returns. The Vuong–La difference is 505 votes. These results are an unofficial snapshot, not a certified winner.
Three candidates for one area
Area 4 voters cast valid selections for one governing-board trustee rather than for a citywide ranked list covering every Garden Grove school. The three reported candidate totals sum to 10,702; that is the count of selections in this particular Area 4 race, not Garden Grove’s overall turnout.
Another district trustee seat
The same results service shows Garden Grove Unified Trustee Area 2 with incumbent Lan Quoc Nguyen 7,339 votes (60%) and Charlene Cuellar 4,894 (40%). Area 2 and Area 4 serve different voters, so their reported candidate margins cannot be merged to suggest one districtwide result.
School-board decisions have local consequences
Trustees oversee educational programs, facilities, budgets and administrative leadership. Residents concerned about class sizes, school maintenance or other district matters should follow the proper trustee-area representative and the official governing-board agenda.
What remains uncertain
The county source does not provide a verified count of unprocessed mail ballots assigned specifically to Area 4. Without that number, neither the newsroom nor candidates can responsibly claim that the 505-vote lead is mathematically final. The election remains unverified by the final canvass.
What the next count could change
These figures come from the Orange County November 3 general-election results, updated November 4 at approximately 5:02 p.m. Pacific. Legal vote counting continues, including qualified vote-by-mail and provisional ballots and post-election checks. The countywide number of outstanding ballots must not be assumed to belong to a particular small district or to have a known candidate preference. The Orange County Registrar of Voters controls the official canvass and will publish certified totals under the legal schedule. California’s statewide certification follows on December 11. No winner is certified by this article.
